Buda’s Rich History
The charming community, known today as Buda, was founded as Du Pre on a uncharted plot of land donated by Cornelia Trimble in 1881. Du Pre became Buda in the mid-1880’s, and the specific origin of what would become the town’s longest serving name has long been at the center of many an urban legend. While some Buda residents are adamant that the name scream “Hungarian,” others believe the name is a direct descendant of “viuda-” widow in Spanish.
Buda jumped right into Texas’ legendary economic action. The now quaint community in North Central Hays County was once hopping with hopeful businesses. The town was incorporated in 1948 and sported a local skating rink, two local banks, a popular theater, and a community centering newspaper.
